Great Father’s Day Books for Dads to Read to their Sons

It’s that time of year – Father’s Day! What better way to celebrate than with something Dad and kiddo can do together? It’s no secret I love reading to my son, Lenox. My little trick to get Dad involved too is finding books I know he’ll enjoy reading to him. I’ve made a list of Father’s Day books for dads, to inspire you to throw in a little extra gift of bonding this year.

Tom Sawyer

I love Greg Paprocki’s illustrated books. I was delighted when I found he was a part of the Baby Classic’s series that included Tom Sawyer. These simplified versions are perfect for getting dads involved in storytime and planting interest in classic stories for babies and young toddlers.

Huckleberry Finn

This version of Huckleberry Finn is a part of the Babylit series. It is a camping primer and since Dad and I both like camping, it is perfect to get our little man ready for a future camping trip.

John Muir

If your baby daddy is also into the great outdoors, the Little Naturalist series is another group of books that are simple, history filled and fun for little tots.

This is a current favorite for the whole fam.

Moby Dick

A great way to find the best book for Father’s Day is to ask about Dad’s favorite story or book. I look forward to getting Logan a more in-depth version he can share with Lenox when he can understand more.

For now, these Baby Lit storybooks are great to introduce babies and toddlers to the stories we love and know. This will spark and maybe grow their interest in future storytimes.

Peter Pan

The Classic Starts version of Peter Pan is definitely for more advanced kiddos. It is for more imaginative minds that can enjoy a story told to them without pictures.

Baby Classics has a simpler version as well for the younger babes, but seriously. What child does not fall in love with the story of Peter Pan!?

The Jungle Book

The Woodsworth collection of stories for kids are beautiful books that will look great on any shelf.

Boys will love the idea of being raised by wolves and learning the laws of the jungle.

Pinocchio

Pinocchio is a classic that any kid will love or it may just terrify them into honesty.

Regardless, a great read and if dad loved this little wooden puppet as a kid it may be a perfect Father’s Day book for dad to read to his son option.

Doctor Dolittle

If your child likes animals, he’ll surely enjoy Doctor Dolittle. A very kind man learns how to talk to animals, from his pet parrot, then uses his powers to heal animals from around the world.

This is an inspiring story to teach your kids to use their gifts for good.

The Wind in the Willows

I love this story because it brings together the most unlikely animal characters to be friends, but still filled with wild adventures!

There are many lessons to be learned in Wind in the Willows, but not at the expense of excitement and entertainment.

Daddy Hugs

This is a heartwarming story of a little elephant telling his dad all the great things about him.

Any dad could make the correlations for themselves and love to read this to their sons. – Of course, it ends with a nice big hug too!

Daddy and Me

Karen Katz’s lift-the-flap books are great!

Lenox loves Where is Baby’s Belly Button? but what is even more fun than finding body parts?!… Helping Daddy find the tools he needs for his new project!

How to Catch a Daddysaurus

One of 52 in a How to Catch series, How to Catch a Daddysaurus is definitely a fave!

Daddysauras is zany, easy to read and a great Father’s Day book to add to your child’s bookshelf.

My Dad is Amazing

My Dad is Amazing is bright, quirky and entertaining!

The illustrations as well as the story are silly and light-hearted. Toddlers are certain to love looking at the pages in this book and celebrating what makes their dads amazing.

I 💙 Dad

Can you do a children’s book suggestion without adding an Eric Carle book?

Well, clearly I can not. I love Eric Carle so I was pleased to learn he has a sweet I Love Dad book featuring the hungry caterpillar.

Why a Son Needs a Dad

Another special series that feature daddy animals and their offsprings. Why a Son Needs a Dad is touching and highlights how fathers help their sons grow.

The best ways to get dads involved in reading

  • ask Dad what he likes to read (classic stories, topics, authors) and find children’s versions or equivalents.
  • check out Greg Paprocki’s Alfabet books. These are literally Lenox’s favorite books. Greg Paprocki’s alphabet books cover an array of topics you’ll be sure to find a Father’s Day book to add to your collection.
  • Baby Loves books – perhaps you will find a subject your son’s dad loves in the 22-book series anywhere from Justice, to Coding to Quantum Physics.

Father’s Day is a great time to find books for dads to read to their sons. This list of Father’s Day books will be sure to inspire any dad to enjoy the bond over a story with their growing little guy.
