My top newborn baby bath products

Flower Bath

I’ve always loved these flower baths and purchased them for moms before me because they just seemed like a newborn must-have. It turns out – for me it is! They make regular-sized sink baths so much easier. It is soft and protects the baby from slipping. My baby would fit perfectly and relax easily inside the flower.

They have different colors – I preferred most things neutral just in case I have another baby of a different gender later.

Target Bath

And then he grew…

I actually bought this impromptu while visiting my inlaws and we never turned back. This is perfect for larger sinks and bathtubs before they are ready to sit up on their own easily. It’s probably the best 20 bucks we’ve spent. I found an identical one on Amazon.

Baby nail file

Easy to use, this nail file is a newborn baby must-have.

My son was born with nails and scratches on his face. So I quickly needed this and often.

There really isn’t much more I can say. It isn’t scary to use, it’s super soft and gently files their nails.

Honest Company

My favorite baby soap brand so far! They are clean, the lavender smells great and the easy-to-use pump makes bath simple with a wiggly baby that you don’t want to take your hand off of.

Honest Company is easy to find outside of Amazon as well so if you “need a reason” to go to Target… here you go.

Booger-Picker!

Just believe me.

You are going to see something in their nose or ear that you can not reach UNTIL you remember that you read this blog post and purchased the Oogiebear.

You are welcome.

Face cleanser

If you care about baby acne this will clear it right up! It is pricey but my son is already 12 months old and I still have half a bottle left over.

Not only did he have a bout of baby acne, but he also had a “goopy eye” from a clogged tear duct. I dampened a cotton round with this Mustela water every morning to unmatte his eye.

Top Newborn Baby Products for Bedtime

Sound Machine –

Sleep training or not, a sound machine is the way to go. It helps drown out distracting noises and is comforting to a newborn coming from our noisy wombs.

Now, they may get so used to it then you may need to purchase a travel one… but again WORTH IT for daily life. Our baby will sleep through our dogs’ barking and I believe we partly have our sound machine to thank for it. I use the Hatch Rest, but there are many great options.

It is compatible with your phone. You can change sounds, volume and colors.

Often I changed it to a colorful light with bird sounds to calm him and give myself an extra 10 minutes.

A similar sound machine that I have not used but is popular: The Momcozy

Nanit

Obviously, there are tons of monitors on the market and we only tried this one, but it is a game-changer. There is an app that gives you the capability of using your phone. If you have an iPad you can also link it as well. The app has a setting where the audio of the monitor can run in the background of your device no matter what you are doing. Also, from your app, you can adjust a night light, different sounds and volumes.

We bought the swaddles to use the breathing monitor and never used them.

The Snoo

Okay, it’s not a newborn must-have per se, but life-changing – yes. If you are able to make this work just do it!

The Snoo detects when your baby wakes up and rocks them back to sleep. It straps your baby in – as well. So you have that extra security while sleeping. The Snoo comes with its own challenges like sliding the latches into place without waking your baby. However, the extra added sleep at the beginning is better than not!

If you go to the Happiest Baby website you can also rent the Snoo. We used ours for about 6 months.

Bedside Bassinet

Something I regret not having, even with the Snoo, but will definitely get if I have another baby, is a bedside bassinet. Especially while establishing breastfeeding and/or if I have another C-section. There was so much up and down in the middle of the night that could have been avoided had I just had a little bedside bassinet.

My friend used this one and loved it! Sometimes plain and simple is all you need.

Top playtime newborn baby products

Snuggle Me

Maybe not a newborn must-have but it was a pleasured luxury. They run sales often, especially for Black Friday. Many times I put my little baby in his Snuggle Me when he fell asleep or I would set him on the couch with me in his Snuggle Me so I wasn’t holding him 24/7. The shape makes them feel as if they are still being held but offers you a little break.

Similar items on Amazon: Nesting pillows have more structure to them to keep your baby in one place. The Topponcino has less of a shape but is thicker than a blanket. It makes it easier for you to hold your baby and pass them on to others.

Bouncer/Swing

Okay, sometimes momma needs a minute! Swings and bouncers will be your saving grace. Honestly, I doubt it matters what you pick. I’ve heard some moms say their baby didn’t like certain seats but I didn’t run into this problem. I’ll list what we used below, but my opinion is as long as it is a safe space for you to get something done in a pinch, it’s good! Pick what you like or like me appreciate what is gifted/available to borrow!

Bottle Warmer

We called this item “the hopper”.

“Can you put a bottle in the hopper for me?” was a daily request.

You can use this for almost any type of bottle, but you can also thaw breast milk bags or homemade frozen baby food as well. It does take a while but you will get the hang of knowing when to put in the item that you need.

What I love most is it keeps the bottle at the perfect temperature and never gets too hot. If you forget or no longer need it, it will automatically shut off after some time.

Of course, this item is mostly for Advent bottles so check the bottle you are using to see if the company you use has its own bottle warmer. Or be sure to check and see if your bottles will fit.

Diapering items for newborn must-haves

Aquaphor (the clear kind) healing ointment

You change newborn’s diaper’s often and they have sensitive skin. I liked to keep this ointment on my baby more often than not. It kept a protective layer on him and made it rare that he got a diaper rash. Also, it makes it easier to clean up messy diapers.

Because this ointment is clear if you got it on yourself it wasn’t a big deal. You can also use this ointment for other things like chapped faces and dry skin.

Butt Spatula

…and to apply this ointment or when you need to use a more aggressive ointment for diaper rashes you will wish you have this butt spatula to keep your hands free of butt paste.

You will have enough random stuff on you, you’ll appreciate having one less thing on your hands.

The Best Wipe Container

Don’t get a wipe warmer.

It’s what everyone told me and I was annoyed because I really wanted one. So I got one. Consequently, it was the biggest hassle! It dried out my wipes and there wasn’t a convenient way to turn it on and off.

As a result, I purchased this easy-to-load wipe holder. I love that it has a weighted topper that helps to pull wipes out.

I hate when you are mid-dirty diaper and the wipes are stuck together; like a clown’s never-ending hanky! Because of the weighted topper this fiasco is avoided.

Top clothing newborn baby products

Zippers!!

It does not matter the brand, the where, the how the when.. just get ZIPPERS!! The amount of diapers you will be changing is substantial. Just do yourself a favor and get zipper jammies!

Knotted Gowns

My 2nd love. I absolutely loved these knotted gowns. Talk about easy diaper changing! The coziest little gowns, we snuggled and lounged and quickly changed diapers all day long. My favorite were the gowns that would also fold over his scratchy little fingers.

In the middle of the night, all you have to do is untie this little gown and tie it back! I’m going to make sure I have a million more of these for baby number 2.

Muslin Burp Cloths

Not a must-have, but my baby spit up a lot! These burp cloths are simple, come in a pack and get the job done. As a bonus, they are super soft! I had many of these and went through them like crazy! They come in multiple colors and numbered packs. I saved my “cute” ones for going out and my plain ones for the copious amounts of at-home messes.

Travel newborn must-haves

Doona

100 percent worth every penny, I’d buy it again and again. This is definitely on my top 5 must-haves for a newborn.

Not only is it convenient, but when I stroll through a store this stroller is much more compact and easy to maneuver than my other stroller.

I can fit it almost anywhere and it cuts down a lot of stress and time getting him in and out of the car.

Newborn baby products nice to have on hand

Baby Meds

Scrounging around the local drugstore is the last thing you want to do when your baby is sick. Save yourself the hassle and extra stress and stock your medicine cabinet now.

Nose Freeda

Do not waste your time with the electronic nose Freeda. When your baby is stuffy and can not blow their nose this manual nose Freeda is the way to go! Yes, it seems gross. Yes, you will get sick too – or at least acquire a sore throat. On the flip side, this thing works!

Newborn products pin

Though these are my top newborn items for new moms – you can definitely survive without them! I do believe these items made my transition into motherhood that much easier. I used all of these products over and over and will use/purchase them if we have another baby. Shopping for newborn baby items can be overwhelming!
