How to Keep Up Quality Time with Your Spouse When You Are Always Together

Being together most of the time can be a challenge for any couple, but it can be especially difficult for couples who are newly married or have young children. When I unexpectedly quit my job as a flight attendant I had to re-learn how to make a conscious effort to spend quality time with my husband.

When you are always together, it can be easy to take each other for granted and forget to make time for each other. However, it is important to prioritize quality time with your spouse, even when you are always together.

The effort it takes to make our time together has had a positive impact on our relationship. So it is important to me that I write about what I do to make quality time with my spouse when we are always together.

Here are a few tips on how to keep up quality time with your spouse when you are always together

  1. Schedule regular date nights. Even if you can’t leave the house, you can still have a date night at home. Cook a meal together, watch a movie, or just cuddle on the couch. Make sure to put your phones away and just enjoy each other’s company.
  2. Take walks together. Going for a walk is a great way to get some exercise and fresh air, and it’s also a great way to talk and connect with each other. If you have young children, you can take them with you in a stroller or carrier.
  3. Play games together. Playing games is a great way to have fun and relax together. You can play board games, video games, or (what we like) puzzles.
  4. Just talk. Sometimes, the best way to connect with your spouse is just to talk. Sit down and talk about your day, your hopes and dreams, or just anything that’s on your mind. This is a great way to build intimacy and understanding.

Quality time is an essential part of any healthy relationship. When you make time for each other, you are showing each other that you care and that you are committed to the relationship. Even if you can’t do anything big, just taking a few minutes each day to connect with each other can make a difference.

Here are some additional tips when spending quality time together:

  • Be present. When you are spending time with your spouse, put away your phone and other distractions. Focus on your spouse and give them your full attention.
  • Be mindful of your body language. Make eye contact, smile, and touch your spouse in affectionate ways. These small gestures can go a long way in making your spouse feel loved and appreciated.
  • Be honest. If you are feeling stressed, frustrated, or overwhelmed, be honest with your spouse about how you are feeling. They can help you to feel better and they will appreciate your honesty.
  • Be forgiving. No one is perfect and everyone makes mistakes. If your spouse does something that hurts you, try to forgive them. Holding onto anger and resentment will only damage your relationship.
  • Be grateful. Take the time to tell your spouse how much you appreciate them. Let them know how much they mean to you and how much you are grateful for their love and support.

Quality time is important for any relationship, but it can be especially important for couples who spend a lot of time together or are involved with a new baby. When you make time for each other, you’re showing your spouse that you care and that they’re a priority in your life. When starting out it can feel awkward or forced but still with it because this can help to strengthen your relationship and keep the spark alive.
